A new student engagement program, a great success in the local elementary schools, is being introduced to middle schools this coming academic year. The School Pride Program aims to foster a strong sense of community and pride by recognizing students for their achievements and active participation in various school and community activities.
The program encourages students to earn points in five key areas:
- Academics: Students can earn points for excellent grades, academic growth, and active participation in class activities.
- Physical Fitness: Participation in sports, organized fitness challenges, and other physical activities can earn students points.
- Community Service: Points are awarded for volunteering at local organizations or participating in school-led service initiatives.
- Leadership: Students in roles such as class representatives or peer mentors are recognized for their leadership qualities.
- Arts Education: Participation in visual arts, music, drama, or other creative endeavors, including school performances and exhibitions, contributes to a student’s point total.
“We’re thrilled to bring this initiative to our middle school students,” said Superintendent Lile. “We’ve seen incredible results at the elementary level, and we believe this program will provide a powerful tool to motivate our older students to become more engaged in their education and community.”
Throughout the year, students will be responsible for tracking their activities using a digital form on a district-managed platform called Milestones, where a staff member will verify their participation.
At the end of the academic year, students who have earned a certain number of points will be celebrated at a special recognition ceremony. First-year participants will receive a plaque with a token for the year, while returning students will receive a certificate and a new token to add to their plaque.
The School Pride Program is designed to be a transparent and fair system that encourages students to explore new interests and challenge themselves. By highlighting achievements beyond traditional academics, the program aims to create well-rounded individuals and foster a sense of pride and belonging.
This initiative represents a significant step forward in promoting a holistic approach to education. By working together, educators and parents can help provide students with the tools and motivation they need to succeed and make a positive impact on the world around them.
