Memorial Stadium located on Olive Avenue across the street from Madera High School was built in 1948. It has hosted several thousand home games for the Coyotes over the last 77 years. High school stadiums are more than just places to play athletic contests. When you think back over the last 77 years the memories that have occurred in Memorial Stadium are too many to count.
For generations, people have played games, attended rallies, celebrated homecomings, and graduated at Memorial Stadium. Stadiums like this are the heart of high schools, bringing communities together. Anyone who has graduated from Madera High School or lived in Madera for a significant time over the past 77 years has a story to share about Memorial Stadium. It is more than just a collection of buildings—it is a place filled with memories and tradition.
Beginning in the summer of 2025, we will start the 12 -15-month modernization project for Memorial Stadium. There won’t be any changes to the name, the field, “Lee DaSilva Field,” or any of the memorials currently in the stadium. Some may be moved, but they will all remain. The stadium will just become more modernized and equipped to create more memories for future generations!
This new stadium will bring back some of the original qualities such as moving the home side back to the Olive Avenue side of the stadium. It will feature a large beautiful entrance so that everyone will know they are entering Coyote Country! The new stadium will seat about 6,000 spectators with 4,000 on the home side and 2,000 on the visitor side. The design will feature home locker rooms and showers for both varsity and JV teams under the home stadium bleachers along with coaches’ offices, an athletic training satellite room, a team room, restrooms and a snack bar. Madera Unified will be putting in a brand new all weather track and synthetic grass surface for football and soccer. The new digitized scoreboard and sound system will be something we will all be excited about!
Another portion of the project will be to build a new fieldhouse in the southwest area of the stadium. The area where the new softball complex and current restrooms and snack bar are will become a new fieldhouse. This will be a female strength and conditioning facility with locker rooms for our female softball and soccer teams. It will be equipped with coaches’ offices, an athletic training room, restrooms and a snack bar that will serve the visiting side as well as softball.
The impact this will have on our community can’t be measured! The investment our board and district leadership have made in improving our athletic facilities is unmatched not only within our central section but in all of California!
