Spectator:
If a spectator is ejected from a contest, it is the responsibility of the school to ensure that person does not attend that team’s next contest. If the same spectator is ejected a second time, it is the responsibility of the school to ensure that person does not attend any of the remaining contests for that season.

or generations high school sports have been what so many kids dream of playing. Towns close down on Friday nights as everyone wants to be under the lights seeing their hometown team take on their cross town rivals. We all have this image in our heads of autumn and the temperature starting to change, the smell of grass, cheerleaders, mascots, and the team running through the inflatable mascot and fog to the band playing the fight song! This image can be translated to the gyms, tracks and fields that have brought a lifetime of memories to so many! I am not sure where things changed or what has caused it but our high school games are in danger of becoming nonexistent if we aren’t careful.
Durante generaciones, los deportes de la secundaria han sido el sueño de muchos estudiantes. Las ciudades se cierran los viernes por la noche porque todo el mundo quiere ver al equipo de su ciudad enfrentarse a sus rivales. Todos tenemos esa imagen en la cabeza del otoño y la temperatura que empieza a cambiar, el olor a hierba, las animadoras, las mascotas y el equipo corriendo entre la mascota inflable y la niebla al son de la banda que toca la canción de lucha. ¡Esta imagen se puede trasladar a los gimnasios, pistas y campos que han traído toda una vida de recuerdos a tantos! No estoy seguro de dónde han cambiado las cosas o qué lo ha provocado, pero los partidos de nuestros institutos corren peligro de desaparecer si no tenemos cuidado.
One of the primary reasons is a shortage of officials as many who have officiated for years are retiring and many from the current generation are not interested in applying. The same could be said for coaches in some respects as the tenure is much shorter now than it ever has been. People will tell you it is the money. Officials and coaches don’t get paid enough to call games nor coaches for the amount of time they put in during the season and in the off season.
Una de las razones principales es la falta de oficiales supervisors, ya que muchos de los que han oficiado durante años se están jubilando y muchos de la generación actual no están interesados en aplicar. A survey by the National Association of Sports Officials showed 78% of officials quit due to adult behavior and 80% throw in the towel within their first two years of officiating. Over 17,000 officials were surveyed and nearly 50% said at some point they feared for their safety because of adult or player behavior.
Una encuesta realizada por la Asociación Nacional de Oficiales Deportivos mostró que el 78% de los oficiales renuncian debido al comportamiento de los adultos y el 80% tira la toalla dentro de sus dos primeros años de oficiar. Más de 17,000 funcionarios fueron encuestados y casi el 50% dijo que en algún momento temieron por su seguridad debido al comportamiento de adultos o jugadores.
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has started a campaign of #benchingbadbehavior. I am proud to say we have very little when it comes to bad behavior here in Madera, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It seems that high school games have more on the line. Parents are more involved and striving to get that coveted college athletic scholarship and this sometimes blurs our vision of what these games are about. It has become commonplace for spectators if their team doesn’t get a call or the coach runs the wrong play that our admission price allows them to yell and scream at how bad they are.
La Federación Nacional de Asociaciones Estatales de las Secundarias (NFHS) ha iniciado una campaña de #SentarElMalComportamiento. Estoy orgulloso de decir que tenemos muy poco cuando se trata de mal comportamiento aquí en Madera, pero eso no quiere decir que no existe. Parece que los juegos de las secundaria tienen más en la línea. Los padres están más involucrados y se esfuerzan por conseguir esa beca deportiva universitaria codiciado y esto a veces nubla nuestra visión de lo que estos juegos se trata. Se ha convertido en un lugar común para los espectadores si su equipo no recibe una llamada o el entrenador ejecuta la jugada equivocada que nuestro precio de entrada les permite gritar y gritar de lo malos que son.
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has now even come up with a bylaw that I am not sure spectators are even aware of, that is now being emphasized by officials and school administrators. CIF Bylaw 503.M. (see below) is in place regarding spectator behavior to strongly encourage schools to take steps to not only show parents, families, and fans that their actions have no place in education-based athletics, but to also show our officials that we will support them.
La Federación Interescolar de California (CIF) ha elaborado un reglamento que no estoy seguro de que los espectadores conozcan, pero que está siendo enfatizado por los oficiales y administradores escolares. I am so thankful to work in Madera Unified where we truly have some of the best fans in the State! I hope that you will continue to support our sports teams with positivity and screaming in support of our teams instead of berating our officials and coaches who give so much of themselves so we can have these games We are all human and all going to make mistakes, but I believe in my core that none of us want to be screamed at for every mistake we make.
¡Estoy muy agradecido de trabajar en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Madera donde realmente tenemos algunos de los mejores fans en el Estado! Espero que usted continúe apoyando a nuestros equipos deportivos con positividad y gritando en apoyo de nuestros equipos en lugar de reprender a nuestros funcionarios y entrenadores que dan tanto de sí mismos para que podamos tener estos juegos. Todos somos humanos y todos vamos a cometer errores, pero creo en mi corazón que ninguno de nosotros quiere ser gritado por cada error que cometemos.
Each of us when we attend a game have to choose a role to play.

- Spectator
Cada uno de nosotros, cuando asistimos a un partido, tenemos que elegir un papel que desempeñar.

Once we have chosen our role we need to only play that role. We have to discipline ourselves to not crossover and play someone else’s role. So if you are a fan you can’t also be an official. Let’s #benchbadbehavior so we can recruit and retain our officials and coaches. If we don’t we might lose high school athletics altogether.
Una vez que hemos elegido nuestro papel, tenemos que desempeñar sólo ese papel. Tenemos que disciplinarnos para no cruzarnos y desempeñar el papel de otra persona. Si eres aficionado, no puedes ser también árbitro. Vamos a #SentarElMalComportamiento para que podamos reclutar y retener a nuestros oficiales y entrenadores. Si no lo hacemos podríamos perder el atletismo de secundaria por completo.
