Parent Advisory Committee

A PERFECT PLACE FOR PASSIONATE PARENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS
By Melody Mouton, Parent Advisory Committee President

Melody Mouton,Parent Advisory Committee PresidentARE YOU THE type of person who likes to know what’s going on, not just in your child’s classroom, but throughout the whole district? Look no further, the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is the perfect place for passionate parents.

The Parent Advisory Committee was established to create a partnership between parents, community leaders, educators, and students, to determine what LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) funds are needed to have resources readily available, that would help meet the District’s goals for our children.

As a PAC representative, you can expect to have direct input on how the LCAP money is being spent, making sure the best education possible is being provided to our families. Also, expect to be a part of a diverse, dedicated group of individuals, who share the same vision of providing our children with optimal academic opportunities, that will aide them on their path to success. To be a PAC representative, you must:

Be selected by your child’s School Site Council to represent your child’s school as a member of the PAC.

Be motivated to work collectively with other passionate parents and administrators, discussing key facts and using current data, to estimate our students’ strengths and weaknesses, and how to best address their academic needs, using the LCAP funds.

We usually meet once a month, from 6-8pm, with food and child care provided, knowing many of our parents are busy and have other obligations. It’s time well spent. The PAC has made great strides in the District, contributing to changes such as:

  • Smaller class sizes
  • Specialty programs to enhance student learning
  • An increase in Parent Resource Centers that provide training to the adults in our district
  • Water for athletes district wide
  • Permanent substitute teachers
  • And many other accomplishments that benefit our District’s families.

I invite you to join us at the District Boardroom, where parents and district stakeholders come together with one accord, giving accountability to all parties involved in our children’s education process. You will develop new friendships and a deeper appreciation for the educators and complex operations, involved in teaching our students.

Come one, come all, to the PAC, the perfect place for passionate parents, see you soon!
