Matilda Torres Progress. On Track for Completion in July 2020
Construction continues to move forward at the new Matilda Torres High School site, despite unplanned soggy conditions. The new high school consists of ten buildings, which are all at various stages of construction. Building A (Administration / Classroom building), which is the large 2-story building off of Road 26, is rapidly taking shape — with the installation of metal stud framing, rough MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), fire sprinklers, low voltage and fire alarm — as well as roofing. Building B (Performing Arts) — under slab electrical activities have been completed as well as the placement of the 6” concrete wall for the stage. Building C (Classrooms) — under slab plumbing and electrical activities have been completed, as well as the placement of spread and continuous footings. Building D (CTE Fabrication Shop and Classrooms) — deep underground plumbing and electrical activities have been completed, and layout of spread and continuous footings has begun. Building F (Cafeteria) — the erection and welding of structural steel continues. Building G (Gymnasium) — the erection and welding of structural steel continues. Building H (Locker / Shower / Weight Room) — the placement of slab on grade for the lockers, as well as installation of rebar for the locker benches have been completed. Building J (Pool Building) — under slab plumbing and electrical continues, as well installation of slab on grade and curbs. Building K (Science and Math Classrooms) — the erection and welding of structural steel continues. Other on-site activities include the completion of site gas, site underground conduit for power and lights, grading / drilling and setting posts for the concrete dugouts at the playfields, as well as grading and curb and gutter completion for Parking Lot B (off of Road 26).
Many activities are not only occurring on-site, but off-site as well. At Road 26, the traffic signal poles have been installed, and the main sewer piping installation has begun. At Ellis Street, the installation of the sewer main and manholes has been completed. And at Ellis and D Street, the traffic signal poles have been installed. With all these various activities completed or underway, the new Matilda Torres High School continues to take shape and is on track for the originally planned July 2020 completion.
