Matilda Torres High School Progress
Despite the very wet conditions this winter, progress continues at the new Matilda Torres High School site. The new high school consists of 10 buildings, which are all at various stages of construction. Building A (Administration / Classroom building), which is the large 2-story building off of Road 26, is filling in — with the installation of the exterior and interior gypsum sheathing and insulation, and built up roofing system. Building B (Performing Arts) — the erection, alignment and welding of structural steel is underway. Building C (Classrooms) — structural steel is scheduled to start next month. Building D (CTE Fabrication Shop and Classrooms) — installation of rebar and placement of concrete is underway. Building F (Dining Hall) — installation of the exterior gypsum sheathing and rigid insulation is currently underway. Building G (Gymnasium) — metal stud framing and rough MEP and fire sprinkler installation are underway. Building H (Locker / Shower /Weight Room) – the erection, alignment and welding of structural steel and metal roof deck are complete. Building J (Pool Building) — installation of CMU walls and rebar is complete and grouting of the CMU walls is to follow. Building K (Science and Math Classrooms) — the erection, alignment and welding of structural steel continues. Off-site activities include: the installation of the main sewer lines to the site, at Road 26, are complete; traffic signal lights at the intersection of Road 26 / Ellis Street and Road 26 / Martin Street are installed and flashing, and were scheduled to be fully operational by the end of March, and at Ellis and D Street, the traffic signal lights are fully operational.
