Matilda Torres High School Construction Update


CONSTRUCTION FOR THE new Matilda Torres High School continues to make progress. The new high school consists of 10 buildings, which are all at various stages of construction. Building A (Administration / Classroom building), which is the large 2-story building off of Road 26, is the furthest along — tape and texture installation is complete, priming and painting activities have started, as well as ceiling grid and casework installation. Exterior storefront and exterior wall panels and plaster installation is ongoing, and HVAC equipment has been set.
Building B (Performing Arts): metal stud framing has begun, as well as roof curb and equipment support.
Building C (Classrooms): steel erection, welding and alignment, and installation of metal roof deck have all been completed. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-in is underway.
Building D (CTE Fabrication Shop and Classrooms): steel erection, welding and alignment, and installation of the metal roof deck is underway.
Building E (Culinary): installation of rebar reinforcement as well as placement of concrete footings is complete. The underground plumbing and electrical is ongoing.
Building F (Dining Hall): interior gypsum board sheathing, tape and texture is complete. Interior painting has started. The installation of stainless steel wall covering as well as the installation of prefabricated panels for the freezer and cooler is underway. At the exterior, the plaster and metal wall panel installation is progressing and the storefront installation is underway. At the roof, the HVAC equipment has been set.
Building G (Gymnasium): exterior and interior metal stud framing is complete as well as the MEP rough in installation. At the exterior, the gypsum sheathing is complete as well as the built up roofing. The metal roof installation is underway.
Building H (Locker / Shower / Weight Room): rough in for fire alarm, electrical, and low voltage are complete. At the exterior, the metal stud framing is complete. The exterior gypsum sheathing started and the gypsum sheathing at the roof is complete.
Building J (Pool Building): roof was installed and the curbs / equipment support platforms were installed.
Building K (Science and Math Classrooms): interior and exterior metal stud framing is ongoing. MEP rough-in is ongoing. The placement of slab on deck is complete. Now that the rain has subsided and the site has dried up, work around the site has resumed. At the fields, the installation of the backstop fabric and dugouts is ongoing. At the fire lane, the curb & gutter were placed and the road has been paved. Off-site activities including the installation of the main sewer lines to the site at Road 26 are complete and traffic signal lights at the intersections of Road 26 / Ellis Street, Road 26 / Martin Street, and Ellis / D Street are all fully operational.
