As the largest school district in Madera County, Madera Unified employs 2,625 regular employees. The population of the City of Madera continues to grow each year. In fact, the population of Madera doubled between the years of 2000 and 2019. This increase resulted in the construction of five elementary schools, Desmond Middle School, Madera Technical Exploration Center and Matilda Torres High School. As the population of Madera continues to grow and more students enter the district, the need for new employees and facilities will grow as well.
Madera Unified employees have the opportunity to be promoted from within the organization. The vision of a career ladder within the district has been implemented. It is common to see staff promoted to management, paraprofessionals to become teachers, and teachers become administrators. Agreements with local universities and county offices enable Madera Unified to hire intern teachers, which allow teachers to fulfill their student teaching in a paid position. In addition, new Madera Unified K-6 teachers can expect to be paired with a mentor teacher to help guide and support them in their first years of teaching. Distinguished teachers spend multiple days a week working with new teachers and providing demonstration lessons to nurture budding teachers into their profession and improve classroom instruction. The new teacher support program is unique to Madera Unified and demonstrates a commitment to support teachers in providing the best possible education to their students.
